Patients & Projects
An Overview of CompliantChatGPT’s Patients & Projects
Organize your HIPAA-compliant AI conversations by patient record or work topic. The healthcare AI workspace that keeps clinical context, EHR integration, documents, and chat history in one place.
Why Patients & Projects Matter
Repeating context in every chat: You start a new AI conversation and have to re-explain the patient's history, medications, and context all over again.
Losing track of threads: Juggling research, admin tasks, and clinical protocols — your chat history becomes an unsearchable wall of threads.
Wasting clinical time: Patients and Projects solve this by giving you dedicated workspaces where the AI remembers everything. No more copy-pasting.
The solution: two workspace types, one organized workflow
Whether you're managing individual patient care or organizing team initiatives, there's a workspace built for how you work.
When to use Patients vs. Projects
A conversation can be linked to either a Patient or a Project, but not both at the same time. Choose the one that fits the work you're doing.
Use Case | Patients | Projects |
Managing an individual patient's care | ✅
Drafting SOAP notes for a specific patient | ✅

Starting a Conversation from a Patient or Project
From any patient or project detail page, you'll see a message input bar at the bottom. Type your message and hit send — the new conversation is automatically linked to that patient or project.
You can also link an existing conversation to a patient or project, or unlink it if you need to reorganize. You can even swap a conversation from a project to a patient directly, without needing to unlink first.
Managing Your Workspace
Both Patients and Projects share the same management tools to keep your workspace organized.
🔍 Search: Quickly find any patient or project by name.
📂 Filter: Toggle between active and archived records.
✏️ Edit: Update name, description, or context anytime.
📦 Archive: Move completed records out of your active view.
♻️ Restore: Bring archived records back to active status.
🗑️ Delete: Permanently remove a record when no longer needed.
Everything Stays HIPAA-Compliant
Patients are built on the same security foundation as the rest of CompliantChatGPT. All data — patient names, background notes, context instructions, and conversation history — is protected under HIPAA-compliant infrastructure.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Patient and a Project?
A Patient is a record tied to an individual person — it holds their name, clinical background, custom AI instructions, and optionally links to their EHR data. A Project is a topic-based workspace for organizing conversations around a goal, department, or initiative that isn't tied to a single patient. Both keep your conversations grouped and give the AI a persistent context.
Can I link a conversation to both a Patient and a Project?
No. A conversation can be linked to either a Patient or a Project, but not both simultaneously. If you need to reassign a conversation, you can unlink it first and then link it to the other.
Do I need a specific plan to use Patients and Projects?
Yes. Patients and Projects are available on plans that include these features. If you don't have access yet, you'll see an option to upgrade when you try to create one.
Is my data in Patients and Projects HIPAA-compliant?
Absolutely. All data — patient names, background notes, context instructions, conversation history, and EHR links — is protected under the same HIPAA-compliant infrastructure as the rest of CompliantChatGPT. Your team's compliance and retention policies apply automatically.
How do I start a conversation under a Patient or Project?
Open the patient or project detail page and use the message input bar at the bottom of the screen. Any conversation you start from there is automatically linked.
Can I link an existing conversation to a Patient or Project?
Yes. You can link any unlinked conversation to a patient or project, or reassign it by unlinking first and then linking to the new destination.
Can I move a conversation from a Project to a Patient?
Yes. You can swap a conversation that's currently linked to a project over to a patient directly, without needing to unlink it first.
